NSF will host a webinar to present the NSF Regional Innovation Engines initiative.  The NSF Engines program will provide up to $160 million to each Regional Engine for up to 10 years to support the development of diverse regional coalitions to engage in use-inspired research and development, translation of innovation to society, and workforce development — with the goal of growing and sustaining regional innovation ecosystems throughout the U.S. State and local governments, non-profit organizations, higher education institutions, for-profit organizations are eligible to apply, meaning your organization may be able to apply as a lead and/or partner with an eligible applicant.

What’s Next?

• Letters of Intent (LOI) are due on June 18, 2024. The one-page letter must be submitted in research.gov. Lead organizations must be registered in sam.gov. To lead an NSF Engines proposal, you need to submit a LOI but you can join an existing team as a core partner after the LOI deadline.  NSF will publish the LOI data.
• We encourage you to learn more about the program and its competitive process for making awards by reading the NSF Engines program solicitation.
• Review the NSF Engines Fact Sheet.
• Check out previous NSF awards that have been made to organizations in your state or region using the NSF Engine’s data visualization tool. 
• If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please complete the Reviewer Interest Form. Members of teams submitting proposals are eligible to be reviewers and encouraged to volunteer.

Join EDA Statewide Planning Grant recipients for the final topical webinar surrounding grant activities, focused on projects related to economic recovery and resiliency. CREC will present findings from research on the Statewide Planning Grants related to resiliency efforts. The Federated States of Micronesia will share how the funds were used to address an ongoing health crisis.

Join fellow EDA Statewide Planning Grant recipients as they discuss their activities related to industry and supply chain. New Jersey focused their work on the aviation industry, and will share on their five projects, including supply chain developments and improvements on an air cargo facility at the Atlantic City airport. Wisconsin will share their story on their numerous automotive suppliers, but with the coming electric vehicle transitions, WEDC wanted to study the extent the supply chain depends on the internal combustion engine.

Please join the SEDE Network for this webinar on state energy financing and federal programming. We will host two presenters, Hans Reimer, Senior consultant and state and local outreach lead at DOE’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) and Brian Anderson, Executive Director, The Interagency Working Group (IWG) on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization. These presentations will focus on available federal programs and potential partnership opportunities for states interested in energy finance.

Hans Reimer: Hans Riemer is a senior consultant to the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office (LPO), where he leads the state and local engagement team and is working with government and private sector leaders to finance a wide array of clean energy projects. Prior to joining LPO, Hans served for 12 years as an elected official in Montgomery County, Maryland, where he passed numerous energy and climate laws including all-electric building codes, solar zoning reforms, building energy performance standards, and smart growth incentives.

Brian Anderson:Brian Anderson was named executive director of the Biden Administration’s Interagency Working Group (IWG) on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization in April 2021. In this role, Anderson strategically leverages national laboratory resources and expertise to help ensure the shift to a clean energy economy creates good-paying union jobs, spurs economic revitalization, remediates environmental degradation and supports energy workers in coal, oil and gas, and power plant communities. A longtime resident of West Virginia and a descendant of coal miners, Anderson brings extensive expertise in regional innovation and technology development for the energy sector.
